World of Warcraft - item upgrade Upgrading

The upgrade of an item lets players boost the gear rating of an item up to 700 points and add a final bonus. Items can be upgraded if they are in your inventory and you take them to the kiln.

Certain items can be upp'd to increase their stats (like perfect broken point armour that is rolled for melee PvP) while others like weapons do not change significantly after an upgrade and thus aren't worth upgrading.

Weapons

Upgrades to weapons can boost their numerical stats, like attack damage, crit chance, and PvE/PvP damage. Weapons come with a flat-rate bonus that increases damage per second. A lot of weapons also come with a fixed bonus which is activated when three or more identical weapons are equipped in a group. In certain instances, this bonus could amount to more than the amount of damage a weapon is able to upgrade on its own.

The cost of upgrading a weapon's capabilities is contingent on the quality of the weapon and its current level. For example, an +2 weapon requires two regular Smithing Stones while a+3 requires four. The number of stones required to upgrade a weapon will continue rise until it requires the higher level of Smithing Stones, at which point it will reset to one.

Trinkets can be re-upgraded once they are no longer needed, allowing a player to boost their power and value over time. They can also be traded between players, making them an extremely popular alternative to gold.

Players should upgrade their most essential items first. This usually refers to the most valuable-in-slot items for their class, then their secondaries and then other pieces of gear that they won't replace in the near future (for example rings or cloaks).
